Booming—and, broke.

I interviewed John Friend, the famous yoga teacher, last night. For three hours. It was his first response to some recent...developments in his Anusara yoga community that pertain directly, and in a fascinating manner, to our mission: being a sane, fun, irreverent yet caring part of the evolution of mindful culture in the West. Oh, and everywhere.

Things at elephant are booming. Lindsey and I have a few (we need more) great volunteers, Bob Weisenberg, Tanya Lee Markul, Ben Riggs, Tobye Hillier and Lynn Hasselberger...and the recently departed Colin Wiseman first among them. Our readership numbers are close to 30,000 unique visitors a day, now, according to Google Analytics...we passed both our local hometown paper, the Camera, and yogajournal.com in August.

And yet—without staff, or investment, our popularity means nothing. Sure, it's service, I hope, to the greater good. There's so much suffering and inequity in the world—having some mindful independent media is no less than vital. And yet—without you—we're, literally, nothing.

From a business point of view, our subscriptions—unique to new media—have saved elephant and pioneered sustainable new media nationally. Please join our reader community.
