Simplicity
"Simplicity is making the journey of this life with just baggage enough." ~Author Unknown
As our culture advances constant stimuli and more stuff lead to increased stress on the body and in the mind. We tend to take on more than we can handle and more than we need. One practice the Buddha recommended is to develop well-being is simplicity. Simplicity can mean bringing more balance into an overcrowded, busy life. De-clutter your life by saying “no” to that next invitation or “important” task, donate possessions you don’t use, or end a draining relationship that doesn’t feed your soul. Create space in your life by “mono-tasking” instead of “multi-tasking”. Be present to one thing at a time. Calm your mind and rejuvenate your body by remembering less is more.
Practice: In Yoga the practice of Saucha, or cleanliness, is the first of classical yoga's Niyamas, or observances. Spring brings with it the seasonal invitation to shed the old and wake up newness, whether it's in cleaning out the closets or uncluttering the mind and body. In your asana practice get back to basics and focus on the space in between each breath and pose. Find silence.
This month at Devotion Yoga we are super excited that we have Mary Carlomagno, the author of Secrets of Simplicity: Learn to Live Better with Less, joining us as she hosts her transformative workshop: Unlock the Secrets of Simplicity, next Saturday, 4/10 Uptown!! Mary is a local author who has been very successful in her business and writing endeavors. Her books have been recognized on Oprah! Join Mary as she guides us to live more simply!
Also, check out all of our new classes! We are launching a new charitable program called Devotion Rocks for Charity and this month we are raising money for the Jubilee Center! Join us for the Devo Rock's "donation only" classes on Friday nights and you will be entered into a raffle to win a $50 gift certificate to City Bistro or Lua Restaurant!
in peace and simplicity, Liza & Patrick

WORKSHOPS / EVENTS
Unlock the Secrets of Simplicity With Mary Carlomagno, Author of Secrets of Simplicity Saturday, April 10th 2 – 5pm, $70 (includes a copy of the book) at Uptown Hoboken Studio Register Here! This workshop combines highly practical steps to re-ordering our lives with psychological exploration and spiritual wisdom. Discover how to find our own personal path to letting go of the things we no longer need and treasuring our truly prized possessions even more. We will use a range of exercises to explore how to: release what holds us back, simplify (eliminate outmoded distractions, stuff, and relationships) and focus (quiet the mind to let simplicity take root); invest our time and money wisely; let creativity in where clutter once reigned; and thrive. This class will help you achieve a newfound clarity and peace of mind, freeing you up to focus productively on your real priorities and passions. Mary Carlomagno is the owner of Order, which specializes in clutter control, urban apartment solutions, office spaces and shopping addictions. Mary’s philosophy is simple: do not let clutter control your life. Her easy-going approach, sense of style and strong communication skills create an atmosphere that makes organizing fun. Her first book, Give it Up! My Year of Learning to Live Better with Less is published by HarperCollins. Her second book Secrets of Simplicity is published by Chronicle books. Mary has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, CBS News, Fox News, in Redbook, Real Simple and Woman’s Day. She has been interviewed on National Public Radio, the Joan Hamburg Show, and Martha Stewart Living and by Leeza Gibbons. www.orderperiod.com

You will receive personal attention and have a chance to speak directly with the Teacher Apprentices. Spring Renewal with a Twist: Nutritional Cleanse & Yoga Workshop Downtown with Jocelyn Krasner Sunday, April 11th 2:00 to 4:00 pm Register Here! Spring cleaning isn't just for closets. It’s the perfect time to purge toxins and awaken from the sluggishness that winter brings: less sunshine, heavier foods, sugar and alcohol laden holidays, a few extra pounds... it's the ideal time for a tune-up!
This 2-hour workshop is split into 2 parts: 1. Discover the easy, healthy, yummy way to do your own Nutritional Cleanse. By setting and sticking to the intention to simplify the diet by eating less food and cleaner food, your body can naturally eliminate toxins. In this phased approach, you’ll embrace the simplicity of whole foods, as you add certain food groups each day. It's nutritious, effective and doable. You'll feel lighter, revitalized and more focused. • We'll review the 3-Day Spring Cleanse, step by step: Rainbow Prep, Grounding Grains, and Luscious Legumes • You'll learn how to enhance your cleanse experience, plus post-cleanse maintenance and ways to "keep it real" • You'll receive a complete information packet as well as recipes, plus email support during your cleanse
2. Get inspired with a Delicious Detox Yoga Class, open to all levels, designed to stoke healthy digestive fires, called “agni.” Yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar describes twists as a "squeeze-and-soak" action: tummy organs are compressed, pushing out metabolic by-products and toxins. We then release the twist and fresh blood flows in, carrying oxygen for healing, stimulating circulation, and refreshing the body. We’ll practice an energizing sequence of both simple and challenging twists, then cool down with asana and pranayama to rejuvenate and calm the nervous system.
