LA YOGA - JUNE 2012

The days are getting longer. Many of us wait patiently (or not so patiently) for the long, languid days of summer when we have a greater opportunity to enjoy the sun.

According to Ayurveda, as the world heats up around us, we have to be aware of the tendency for our own internal heat to rise, which is why this week we chose some recipes that help dispel and decrease the effects of heat (see below). In addition, try chopping up some fresh cucumber and/or jicama to add to a salad or salsa (I was served a delicious salsa last week with a base of jicama and cucumber), slicing a watermelon, or diving into some cool water (anyone up for a swim?).

Summer can also instigate a rise in our emotional temperature, so taking some time to take a few breaths and cool off before we speak can sometimes have a balancing effect and help us to continue to promote positive relationships with everyone around us. Keep this in mind throughout the season as the heat continues to rise.

Speaking of positive relationships, this Sunday is Father's Day. Pack a picnic, grill some veggie burgers, take your dad to Yoga class (my dad recently went to one of my classes for the first time), pick up the phone, or say a prayer of remembrance. The small rituals of our lives as the days lengthen can help us to feel connected.

With Appreciation for Everyone in this Community,
