Hello Wheatsville friends and fans!
Today is Julia Child's 100th Birthday and throughout her life she shared her love of good food, fresh ingredients and taught techniques that would last a lifetime. It didn't need to be fancy (although most of the time it was), it just needed to be made well and enjoyed to the fullest. Eating what's in season, getting to know the people that grow, make and sell your food and sharing it with friends was (and still is) what it's all about.
As we look forward to September try and take a few of these ideas and pack them into your lunchbox or your kids' lunch box. Try eating a rainbow in every meal - fresh veggies with dip, a pretty piece of fruit all cut up and ready to eat, a handful of almonds, a decadent bite of brie (so many wee sizes and kinds to choose from), or treat yourself to some natural, organic Sour Mango Licorice Twists to share with friends. The more you enjoy what you eat, the happier you'll be!
August 17-19 is Tax Free Weekend and almost all of our lunch kits are ON SALE! Make sure you get yourself all set up for a litter-free lunch with reusable To-Go Ware stainless steel tiffins, bento-style Laptop Lunch kits, and reusable, machine washable, sandwich and snack bags. We've got tons of styles and colors to choose from.
We'll also have loads of samples both Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm to keep you Tax Free Weekend energy up and your lunch box food choices inspired! Kicking off the sampling this weekend we'll have our friends at Bola Pizza here at 11am on Saturday. They'll be baking pizza in their wood-fired mobile oven and giving samples! If you miss them, make sure you give the GodMother and Truffle Daisy pizzas in our freezer section a try. Julia Child would certainly approve!

Our Produce Picks this week are two sure-to-pleasers: Organic Seedless Grapes and Young Thai Coconuts. Grapes are in the height of their season right now and are crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. They are great frozen and provide a punch to a fresh greens salad.

Quick to Fix
Getting back to school can be a trying and stressful time. Make it easier on yourself by getting some quick to fix items that are easy to put together and even easier to cook!
Niman Ranch entrees; Pulled Pork, Beef Pot Roast in Pomodoro Sauce and Beef Tips in Provencal Sauce, are a low fuss solution. Pick up some tasty sides or make a pulled pork pizza with the fresh pizza dough from the deli and dinner is DONE!
If you’re looking for excellent value the Wheatsville Turkey Burger is the way to go. They have great flavor and for $3.99/lb. they cannot be beat.
Tri-tip steaks are very popular in California, but there is no reason for this great cut to not be popular here in Texas. New to Wheatsville, tri-tip is a sirloin that is cut into medallion style steak. It looks similar to Tenderloin but is packed with sirloin’s great flavor for only $14.99/lb.
This steak is fantastic for grilling or just sear the steak on both sides in a hot pan with generous salt and throw that pan in a 425 degree oven (if your pan is oven safe) for about 5-7 minutes per side. While you are letting it rest for at least five minutes, deglaze the pan with stock or wine and let it reduce to your desired consistency and you have a great sauce to accompany your fantastic steak.

Hospice Austin
Hospice Austin has provided compassionate end-of-life care to central Texans for over 30 years and we are proud be support them as August’s Community Action Group. While they work closely with physicians and nurses to ensure that their patients are comfortable and well-cared for throughout their end of life journey they are also thinking about their animal companions.
For many patients, their pets offer unconditional love, acceptance, comfort and companionship when it's needed most - the time when friends and family are not seen as frequently or when words are too hard to say. Pet Peace of Mind, a program offered by Hospice Austin, provides helping hands and financial assistance to help patients with pet care needs. These volunteers offer daily pet care, routine veterinary care, boarding and place the pet in a new home if needed after the patient’s death. Services are offered dependent upon the needs of the patients and families and volunteer availability.
One percent of August’s Wednesday sales (15th and 22nd) will be donated to Hospice Austin as well as additional contributions and reusable bag credits that shoppers donate at the cash register. We are also hosting a Food Pantry Drive for Hospice Austin throughout the month so feel free to pick up an extra canned good to drop in the box on your way out of the store.
